Online Shopping or Ecommerce is just the simple art of making transactions online in other to get service rendered to you or have your goods [physical or digital form] delivered to you at a fee to your door step or your agreed location. There are some challenges of ECommerce in Nigeria or shopping online here in Nigeria because I do remember my friend telling me, “bro” you better be careful the way you shop online they will just chop[spend] your money without rendering the service to you or delivering the agreed goods to your desired locations and that is also why he doesn’t shop online, tell me something will you blame my friend for acting that way and letting me know the consequences? If I were you I am going to give NO! the chance in this situation.
Now let’s get back to our major topic for today’s post => Challenges of E commerce (Online Shopping) in Nigeria or let’s just say the consequences of Buying Online in Nigeria. There are many factors affecting the desire of many Nigerians to buy/shop online and in this post I am going to show you the factors and the method in which it can be solved [You can also give your own way of solving them using the comment box below]. Here are some of the Factors affecting Buying Online [E-commerce ] in Nigeria.
Large Availability of inferior products – You know one of the things missing in buying online is the chance to do the thorough checking and when I mean checking we Nigerians are experts in scrutinizing the physical parts of the products and may sometime according to the type of the product test it to see how it works if it worth your hard earned cash you buy if it doesn’t you abandon it *simple*, Now in Nigerian we have series of online stores that allows you to order on the go without stressing yourself and yo! That’s nice and it reduces time and human health factor, but there is disadvantages for advantages yes you should know that before opting to shopping online and you can only reduce the disadvantages if you are clever enough to know the disadvantages. Inferior products are prototype of the original ones and you also know that the photocopy can never be like the original no matter how much you try there will always be a slight difference and that is what am going to show you now, when you are looking for a product [mobile phone] you want to buy online and let’s say you find an online store in Nigeria selling that mobile phone at cheaper price don’t just rush and make your orders yet, play around a little with the internet and make some research about the phone, reviews, prices and specifications would have been written on that type phone, remember to note that and check the date in which that review was made if it was recent then you have to compare the prices to the one you saw in Nigerian supposing the currency there is in US or any currency then you have to convert it to Nigerian currency and compare the prices if you notice the one in Nigerian is too cheap comparing to the one you saw online ( some of the trusted websites that writes very well about mobile phones review are Androidauthority.com ,Timesofindia.com, Sammobile.com ,Mashable.com , and many more) then you have to abandon it because the probability 80% that is not an OEM[Original Equipment Manufacturer] product which has no warrantee [ the time it is expected to last}.
Fake Online Stores :-Yes in Nigeria I believe there are fake online stores since I haven’t come across them and if I do I will know they are fake and the way you can know is by finding the details about them, I mean their interaction with their online and potential customers, check their reviews online, you will be thinking there is no review blog saying things about them then you are wrong if it is a nice and authentic store people will talk about it and recommend it anywhere online then you are also going to use the review and testimonials of others to grade the level of trust you are going to award them and Note Google is always the search engine to go in other to get relevant searches and be clever with your interaction with them.
Level of Economy :-You would be wondering how the level of economic can affect the level of buying online in Nigeria, My reader it is true economic affects the growth of online shopping, now lets look at those developed countries like US, London and many of them their economy gives them the avenue and ability to unleash the beauty of ecommerce more than here in Nigeria, you would say how? The how is the cost of browsing the internet there is cheap and fast compared to what we have here, tell me how can you use 10mb to browse 10 pages using browser application on your Android phone and note that 10mb costs N100, Let’s do the mathematics, let’s say you want to buy something online and let’s say you don’t know what to buy and just want to search the internet for some nice product after searching Google you load the page of the products let’s say you don’t like the product you search for another before you know it you will get a 50% usage from your network provider after some minutes you have exhausted your megabyte allocated to you without even buying the product N100 is gone, some people will just think why don’t I walk into the nearest store there and get what I want without wasting this precious N100 of course I won’t ever blame them for acting that way. The only way to solve this is to budget and prepare yourself to be fast and we will continue praying one day that the economic will be good and comfortable for all of us but as for now you have to prepare yourself very well to enjoy shopping online.
Level of Trust:- Don’t you think it sounds weird paying somebody you don’t even know online and having confidence the agreed service will be rendered to you or the goods will be sent to you, my brother it takes a lot of determination to do that here in Nigeria and let me say 90% of the people in Nigeria wouldn’t do that and let me ask you will you do it? Answer the question using the comment box below. An average Nigerian will not do it because they have seen many people duped and have fell victim in that same way, so they wouldn’t like to fall victim also. But they failed to remember something that embedding trust on somebody determines how people talks about that person, they failed to ask and find some vital information like I said above about review of mobile phones, and that is why they will always fall victim to the fake sellers.
*** My brother don’t be quick to trust anything you see online because not all things that glitters is Gold you have to be clever and seek other sources before opting to interact with them with your personal details.***
