Tecno Android Phones and Itel Android phones are the smartphones that are relatively cheap to buy in Nigeria.
You know what that means?,
Many people will prefer using/buying them compared to Samsung , HTC, Nexus and the rest of them.
Today am going to share my awful experience using Tecno and Itel (MediaTek) android smartphones,
Note – I am not making you go against your wish to use the phone made by these two manufacturers but i am trying to let you know the disadvantages or the cons you might face using Tecno and Itel phones.
Please follow and read along attentively, don’t fall into that trap coupled with frustration…
I started with Tecno P9 (2013), tablet lovers will definitely know that phone ,
The phone has a very neat and slim design, it runs on Android 4.2 Operating System and was very easy to use (R.I.P.)
It wasn’t upto a year, the phone started with little problems like;
Low memory space to install apps whereas i checked the storage and i saw 6GB of space available … imagine!!!
The phone met its end gradually when the phone started developing charging point mal-function,
I repaired the charging point three(3) times spending good amount of bucks which i could have used for other things.
I dropped the tablet due to frustration from different engineers and the money i spent is really getting out of hand.
I switched to Itel products,
I definitely could not see myself using Itel Android phones.
I bought the phone because of its portability and design, but it was all a sham
My Experience – I installed Facebook & WhatsApp applications on the phone, i was happy installing them thinking this was a new experience unlike Tecno,
The most shocking thing occured when I attempted to install a nice game called “Traffic Racer”, the phone popped out a message telling me not enough space, free up some space by deleting unused apps,
I was like what the…? or should I say Haaaaaaa! i was left speechless
I searched for helpful articles online, i contacted one of the Itel sales rep on Facebook only to start blabbering telling me things I don’t wanna hear.
The phone was useless to me and i cannot say its uses is more than that that of Nokia torch light phone.
The Itel phone met its demise when my the phone dropped on the floor and the calibration decided to go on permanent vacation, i went to an engineer asking him the cost of repairing the phone, the price he told me made me flee…
I abandoned the phone.
I tried out Tecno again, this time it was with a standard Tecno phone called “Tecno L7”
Some people do say Teno H6 is the same as Tecno L7, yea its design looks identical in some way.
My friend once told me that;
” My Guy don’t you dare attempt to use a Tecno Android Smartphone for a year”
I was like Guy what do you mean?
He told me that, Tecno Phones cannot go a year without developing problems that might destroy the phone.
He told me the best timing is to use a Tecno phone for 6 months and find a way to swap the phone.
Unfortunately, i am not a fan of selling/swapping properties, i did not swap the newly bought “tecno l7” when it was 6 months of use.
Just exactly, my friend foretold it won’t last a year and that came to pass … How? Read on,
My Experience – The phone was running smoothly not until one faithful (fateful) morning, I switched on the phone as usual,
After Booting, i swiped the phone screen to input my password to start jamming the phone as usual, i touched, swiped, did all kinds of things to operate the phone but the callibration wasn’t working.
This was frustrating as there were no scratch(es) on the phone screen,
I went to a nearby engineer, you know we have different levels of engineer,
Some engineers are just there for decoration just to repair charging points, mouth pies, speakers, battery connector and other minor works.
The local engineer removed the back-cover of the phone, he saw the battery and wanted to remove it but later he found that its was unremovable so he stopped, looked and looked then he packaged the phone and said
Brother, i no know wetin dey do ya phone o, i think make you carry this your phone go the maker(Tecno) office, dem go know wetin dem go do am”
I wasn’t suprised so i enquired for direction to Tecno Office from him.
I went to Tecno office in mokola (carlcare),
Getting there, i told them what was happening to the phone and showed them the phone,
The woman looked at me and the phone and said
“Bros! for this your phone you are going to buy touch pad for it at the rate of N15,500”
I couldn’t believe what i was hearing, N15,500? for this phone? how much is the phone? those questions were parading over my brain, i was speechless for a while, I collected the phone from the woman and said “Thank You Ma” … I left their office with immediate effect.
With that in mind, i continued my adventure to the shop of a highly-skilled engineer, he told me he was going to buy touchpad alone not complete screen and the outcome was going to be “50-50”, which means if it works thats very good and if it doesn’t then your screen will be damaged and you have to buy a complete screen.
I showed courage and gave the phone to the engineer including the touch pad and reparation fee which was N5,000 (had to state if for a reason).
Fortunately the phone came back to life after spending that few bucks on it
Some months later
This was exactly when the phone met its end…,
I was busy that sunny afternoon blazing the internet and the phone at the same time connected to a power port, the phone suddenly went off…
I was like what the…? why? why?? why???
i pressed the power button many times and the phone couldn’t come back to life (switch on), i did all i could but no sign.
I visited the engineer as usual thinking the battery was the problem wanting to buy another one but to my greatest surprise…
After dismantling the phone into smaller parts and series of test, the engineer arrived at a conclusion telling me the panel is dead, he proofed it…
I was totally disappointed to the core, I told the engineer to couple the phone, that it is the end of Tecno.
I abandoned the phone.
My sister decided to buy a phone without letting me into it and unfortunately for her she bought an Itel phone,
The phone is a very neat phone, with sleek design and nice GUI, running android 5.1 (Lollipop)
Bad Experience – The phone hangs or freezes when connected to WI-FI network
You know what that means right you cannot connect to a wireless network.
There are other disadvantages of buying Tecno Android Smart phones … Includes;
Tecno manufactures do not provide OTA(Over-The-Air) Upgrade to their phones
This means the operating system installed on the phone when you bought it will be the one you will stick with till the Obituary of the phone.
Let’s say you bought Tecno L7 or H6 etc which carries 4.4 KitKat OS and your friend with infinix hot 2 has 5.1(Lollipop) OS installed and can still upgrade to the latest 6.0 version, what would you think?
How much is infinix hot 2 compared to Tecno L7 and still yet I cannot upgrade… Damn the whole of Tecno.
If you have been using Tecno you will know that the battery capacity is nothing to write home about,
The battery drops like the ticking of clock (100,99,98,…1%)
Oh geez! Low battery again.
HANGING & FREEZING PROBLEM
After series of operation on the phone you will experiencing what will call “Freezed Phone”
Haaa! My phone is not a sachet water that can be freezed, how come my phone is like this?
You are not to blame, the manufacturers own all the blame. (Mostly Itel & Tecno phones)…
This is what I have to say concerning this matter, you can share your experience with a Tecno android phone and Itel android Phone using the comment box…
